Fritz Zwahlen
Head Chef at Amanyara

Fritz Zwahlen was born in 1963 on the outskirts of Bern, the capital of Switzerland.

He was the eldest of four children and learned his first cooking skills as a young boy from his Austrian born mother.

After the completion of a three year apprenticeship as a cook in a small hotel not far from Bern he had the urge to move on to a bigger and more challenging position in the 5 Star hotel Schweizerhof in Bern. From then on he knew that cooking was really his passion and his dream was to travel the world and to learn all about different cooking cultures.

His first overseas job was in Banff, Canada, then he returned to Europe to learn pastry. Together with his future wife he migrated to Australia in 1991 where he worked his way around the kitchens of Melbourne and Queensland, culminating as Executive Chef at the prestigious Lizard Island Resort for four years.

From Australia, Fritz joined Aman Resorts as Executive Chef at Amanpulo in the Philippines for five years, winning several international awards. He then became opening Country Chef for Aman Resorts’ two new hotels in Sri Lanka in 2004, before being asked to open Amanyara in the beautiful Turks and Caicos a year later and winning rave reviews by guests and local diners ever since.
